Use a vacuum to clean debris from the air conditioner intake.
Summer is here! Time to enjoy your outdoor stuff and make sure you're ready for travel. Your Fix-It Tips for June include central and room air conditioners, bicycles, fishing reels, car radios, decks, yard trimmers, recycling, and more. With the Fix-It Club's easy instructions, you can make this a Summer of Fun!

Fix-It Tip #71

Once a year, lubricate the fan motor with lightweight non-detergent oil if the owner's manual has instructions for doing so. If you don't have the manual, ask the technician how you can do this task yourself. From Central Air Conditioner Repair.

Fix-It Tip #72

Wait five minutes before restarting an air conditioner to lessen strain on the compressor. From Room Air Conditioner Repair.

Fix-It Tip #73

Once you're done with a ride, make sure you clean dirt and debris off the tires, wipe moisture off components, and clean the chain of debris. If you wipe the chain, lightly lubricate it to replace the oil removed. From Bicycle Repair.

Fix-It Tip #74

Fly reels last longer if cleaned with a small amount of alcohol or kerosene after every use. Also apply lightweight oil on other moving parts of the reel before storage. The same advice goes for spinning and bait-casting reels. A little preventive maintenance can add years to your fishing enjoyment. From Fishing Reel Repair.

Fix-It Tip #75

Antitheft devices in modern cars require that a code, stored in memory, be automatically input before the radio will operate. Knowing this, a thief may not steal radio because it won't operate without the code. That's the theory, anyway. Unfortunately, the code is stored only as long as your car's battery works. Once it dies or drops below operating level the code is gone! So make sure you know the radio's code--just in case the battery goes dead or is disconnected for even a minute (to replace the battery). Write it on the car key or in an obscure location in the owner's manual, somewhere a thief wouldn't be able, or think, to look. Someday you'll thank us! From Car Radio Repair.
